Ties are one of the few uniform items schools reorder every year independently of the rest of the uniform (as pupils lose or wear them out), so we keep the striping pattern on file indefinitely once set up — a repeat order needs no re-approval.

School ties in Kenya: small item, big impact on the uniform

A tie is a small part of a uniform, but it is one of the first things to go missing. Pupils lose ties, leave them in dormitories, or wear the knot into a loop that frays. Schools that run a strict dress code usually reorder ties every term, and often every month for lower classes.

Many schools use clip-ons for the younger classes and standard ties from upper primary. Mixing the two is fine as long as the stripes and colours match.

How we match your school's stripes and colours

Colour matching is the most important part of a tie order. A tie that is slightly off will stand out against the shirt and blazer. To get it right, we ask for one of the following.

• A current tie from your school, which we can copy.
• A written specification with the colours, stripe widths and spacing.
• A photo of the tie and a colour reference, if you can not send the item.

We then make a sample for approval. You can approve it in our Kasarani, Nairobi shop or on WhatsApp. Once approved, the pattern stays on record, so a repeat order needs no new artwork. If you are changing the school colours, we can also set up a new design from your description.

Crests and tie tips

Some schools add a woven or printed crest on the tie, usually near the tip. This works well if the design is simple, with few colours and little fine detail, because small lettering can blur at tie size. If the crest is complex, a simplified version on the tie, matched to the full crest on the blazer, usually looks cleaner. Planning a tie supply that does not run out

Because ties are lost often, bursars and PTAs do better with a small, steady supply than with one large order per year. A few simple habits help.

1. Count how many ties were replaced last term and use that as a base.
2. Add a buffer for new intakes at the start of the year.
3. Keep a small stock in the school office or bookshop for parents to buy.
4. Reorder when stock is about a quarter of what you started with.
